Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 7, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to Native Reader. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy details how we handle the information generated and processed during your use of the Native Reader mobile application.

By using Native Reader, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree to the terms in this policy, please do not use the application.

2. Local-First Architecture

Your Books Stay Yours

Native Reader is designed with privacy at its core. Your e-books (EPUB files) and generated translations are processed locally on your device and are never sent to or stored on servers owned by us.

Because the app follows a local-first design:

  • Local Storage: Your library catalog, current reading progress, and local translation database are persisted locally on your device in secure, encrypted, and standard databases (Hive & Secure Storage).
  • Cloud Backups: The local data resides in your device's Application Documents directory and may automatically sync to your private cloud storage accounts (iCloud on iOS, Google Drive on Android) depending on your device's system backup preferences. We do not have access to these private cloud backups.

3. Data We Collect

We believe in absolute privacy: we do not collect, store, or transmit any user data.

  • No User Accounts: You do not need to create an account, register, or sign in to use Native Reader. Your app identity is completely anonymous.
  • No Personal Identifiable Information (PII): We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, location coordinates, or contacts.
  • Local Logs: Debug logs generated during local crashes or errors remain on the device and are not automatically transmitted to our servers.

4. Third-Party Services

To provide AI-powered translation capabilities and verify premium subscription plans, Native Reader utilizes trusted third-party services. These services may collect certain information as part of their operations:

  • OpenRouter API: When you initiate a translation, paragraphs of text from your EPUB file are sent to the OpenRouter API for machine translation. According to OpenRouter's policies, your translation payloads are processed securely and are subject to their developer data retention practices (e.g., payloads are generally not used for model training).
  • RevenueCat: We use RevenueCat to manage and validate subscriptions and premium access. RevenueCat associates transactions with an anonymous application user ID. No email address, username, or other direct PII is shared with RevenueCat by Native Reader.
  • App Stores (Google Play Store & Apple App Store): All subscription purchases are handled securely by Google Play Billing and Apple StoreKit. Native Reader only receives anonymous transaction receipts to verify purchase status and never collects your credit card number, banking details, or billing address.

5. Your Choices & Control

Because your data is kept on your device, you have complete control over it:

  • Delete Local Data: You can purge all imported books, configurations, cached translations, and saved settings at any time by clearing the Native Reader app storage inside your mobile device settings, or by uninstalling the application.
  • Disable Translations: You can completely disable the AI translation pipeline in the app settings, which stops all outgoing network requests to translation endpoints.

6. Children's Privacy

Our application is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child has provided personal information to any of our third-party billing/subscription tools, please contact those respective services to request removal.
